Because getting away from it all doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

The Wild-de-goIt’s a brand spanking new year, which means we’re starting to think about all the cool places we want to go to in 2015. Why not ditch the plane and take a Staycation instead? Staycations – holidaying in the UK rather than going further afield – are a great way to take the stress out of your trip. And with so many amazing places to stay in the UK you’ll never want to leave again…

We sent you off to embrace your inner child last time with a tree-mendous trip. And this week we’re doing it again, with a little adventure on a pirate ship…

The Wild-de-go is an unusual boat house, anchored down at Commons Farm near Bude. The owners Emma and Ivan bought this old 1920’s Isle of Scilly day tripper boat off an old pirate in North Cornwall for just two hundred and fifty gold coins (or so the story goes). But this place is anything but a shipwreck, and after a complete make-over, it’s our top pick for a Winter Staycation this season.

The rustic Wild-de-go has all the original portholes, exposed beams and ribs of the boat all around. The cabin has been fitted out with an insulated grass roof and a few luxuries like a little fold away TV. But the best bit… there’s a private wood-fired hot tub sunken into the surrounding timber decking. You can even take the smaller boat out on a mini voyage of your own on the pond and feed  the ducks.

This incredible escape sits in a secluded secret garden down from the main house, hidden behind the ‘magic gate’.

Bude is a mere 5 miles away with beautiful sandy beaches, and you can even try your hand at a spot of surfing at Widemouth Bay. Or hike/bike round the stunning Tamar Lakes before exploring the endless North Cornwall coastline.
