Green Travelling Tips

By Jack Sullivan

Last time around, we gave you our top tips for travelling green. This time, we want to dispel some myths about eco travel (because it really is the dogs b*llocks)…

Keeping it clean
For some reason – and we really don’t know why – a lot of people seem to think that travelling green means you have to stay in dirty, dingy hostels. The truth is that (most) hostels are nowhere near as bad as the stereotype they’ve attained. More importantly, though, this belief couldn’t be any more wrong. There are loads of cool options too like AirBNBs that are better for the planet without having to sacrifice home comforts.

Don’t be a treehugger
Second of all, as we’ve said before, we can’t get our head around why many people automatically think of camping in jungles and hugging trees when they hear the words ‘eco-travelling’. Jungle camping would of course be pretty darn fun (and planet-friendly). But realistically, eco-tourism exists everywhere – whether it’s the way you get around a city or a swanky eco hotel.

Ditch the backpack
Only backpackers or passionate environmentalists can travel green, right? Wrong. Even if it’s a family holiday or a weekend away with your mates, you can definitely find some eco-accommodation wherever you go!

Pinching those pennies
Last but by no means least, there’s a common perception that travelling green costs more than travelling normally. We admit that certain areas you have to be careful with pre-booking trains, but generally speaking, if you plan your adventure wisely then there’s no need for it to be drastically dearer. There are plenty of travel options, activities, accommodation, food that are planet-protecting in one way or another.

So there you have it – the truth about travelling green. We hope we’ve helped clear some patchy areas up and encouraged you to travel in greener style. Bon voyage!
