Battle the big waves on a white water rafting Traincation to Austria

on in Get Involved, Travel

Flying is so yesterday. If you want to avoid expensive taxis and getting perved on by the new airport security checks, then trains are the only way to get around. Whether you’re looking to large it in Latvia or get kinky in Helsinki, Traincation expert Hollie Wicks bring you the the weird and wonderful of European Traincations

Water Rafting

This week we are sending you on an exhilarating Traincation for some extreme white water rafting in Austria…

What’s all the fuss?
White-water Rafting Guide to River Trips is a project sponsored by a network of commercial rafting outfitters, from around the world. They work together to provide visitors with useful information about selecting a river.

The company offers you rafting trips to a range of countries, but for this week we have chosen the Lech River in Austria. It is situated north-west of Innsbruck, it flows through the corner of the Tirol between the mountain ranges of the Allgauer and Lechtaler Alps.  The rafting trips are available all through Spring and Summer, but the scenery is at its best in Spring. This is when the Lechtaler is full of colour.

Experience is not needed when it comes to rafting the waters of Lech as it takes you leisurely through the meandering course between the two Alpine mountain ranges. It also provides you with a unique perspective to enjoy the breath taking grandeur of the Tyrolean Mountains (so don’t forget to take a waterproof camera and take loads of snaps!) This trip is suitable for families, beginners or anyone interested in an easy adventure with amazing views.

Getting there
To get to Innsbruck is very easy; take the late afternoon Eurostar to Paris, then get comfy in bed aboard the Paris – Munich city night line sleeper train. Awake refreshed in your cosy train cabin before catcing the connecting train to Innsbruck the next morning.  We love travelling by train as it is just as simple as flying but better for the environment and more time effective.
