Rhine in Flames, Oberwesel

By Emily Rycroft

This week we’ve been saying goodbye to the summer and embracing the impending autumn. But just because August is over, it doesn’t mean you have to stop partying. Why not embark on a new adventure on Traincation to Oberwesel…

Riverboats RhineWhat’s on?
From 10-11 September Oberwesel in Germany will be hosting one of the most incredible firework displays in Europe. Head on over to Rhine Valley for Rhine in Flames: Night of 1000 Fires, and see the whole sky light up with fireworks. The event is part of the town’s annual wine festival and offers a great mix of music and activities to keep you entertained. Watch from the riverbank or hop on one of the colourful boats (pictured) that travel along the Rhine from St Goar to Oberwesel, illuminated by bright lights.

Rhine ValleyGetting there
This journey really showcases exactly what a Traincation is all about. After a quick Eurostar trip from London to Brussels, hop on the high speed Thalys train and arrive in Cologne in less that two hours. There are trains every hour from Cologne to Koblenz, and then hourly trains onward to Oberwesel taking less than half an hour. The views of Rhine Valley (pictured) along the route are a unique sight you will never experience properly peering over another passenger’s shoulder, thousands of feet in the air.
