All aboard for a canoeing Traincation to Sweden

on in Get Involved, Travel

Flying is so yesterday. If you want to avoid expensive taxis and getting perved on by the new airport security checks, then trains are the only way to get around. Whether you’re looking to large it in Latvia or get kinky in Helsinki, Traincation expert Hollie Wicks bring you the the weird and wonderful of European Traincations

This week we’re sending you on Traincation to the waters in and around Sweden for a spot of canoeing…

What’s all the fuss?
CanoeingIf you’re the adventurous type, this trip with Nature Travels could be perfect for you! Bergslagen is the ideal place for a canoe trip, with a beautiful landscape of quiet forests and lakes. To add to the trip, you will be camping wild each night, planning your days and distance for each day at your own leisure, making this trip the ultimate outdoor experience.

You can choose how far you’d like to venture, some journeys going as far 105km! However if you’re feeling particularly courageous this can be extended by a number of detours into side lakes. You do not need any previous experience of canoeing, but you should be used to (and of course enjoy) the outdoor life as this particular tour is the most challenging in Bergslagen. There are ten land crossings, but the transport needed for this is included in the equipment you are provided with so don’t panic.

The tours are suitable for adults and for families with older children and perfect for any lovers of the outdoors. The adventure will leave you with a lot of memories and stories to tell! You will meet the supervisors out there at the canoe centre and they will show you where you will camp on the tour, which can last between seven and 14 days. Be sure to check the website for the itinerary and other information.

Getting there
The canoe centre is easy to get to by rail and this is an adventure to add to the whole experience. First travel from London to Brussels by the super-fast Eurostar, and then from Brussels travel to Cologne by ICE high-speed train. Be sure to stop here and take time out for a meal and a re-energise for the last part of the journey!

Then travel overnight from Cologne to Copenhagen via the City Night Line sleeper train. Then catch the Oresund link train to get to Gothenburg. You’re nearly there! From Gothenberg catch the local train to Karlstad, then from there catch the local bus to Gunnerud. You’ve arrived to start your adventure, enjoy! Visit Loco2 or RailEurope for tickets and help with booking.
