You should all know by now that we enjoy any excuse to party. So when we heard the words beer, food and fancy dress we just had to pick Oktoberfest in Munich as our Traincation of the week…
Every year over six million people flock to Munich to douse themselves in beer and stuff their faces with around 300,000 bratwursts, 600,000 roast chickens and 80 oxen. Oktoberfest only allows selling beer from Munich’s six top breweries in the big tents. Check out the Hofbräu tent for an American/Australian feel or the Augustiner, Ochsenbraterei or Fischer-Vroni tents for a more authentic experience.
But there’s more to the festival than just beer – check out the little flea market to pick up some presents or take a ride on one of the fairground rides (we’d advise you to do this before getting drunk). There are also marching bands and the Costume & Riflemen’s Parade to keep the youngsters entertained.
The Eurostar will take you right into the heart of Paris. From there, climb aboard the City Night Line sleeper train to Munich from Gare de L’est. Try and get a sleeper carriage as they are easily the most luxurious with squashy beds, lots of space for your bags, and your own shower and toilet. Pile into a carriage, grab your glass of wine or beer and begin the party!
Why not win something on the road? Enter one of our competitions to win some great vouchers – from £50 to spend on bags and shoes or £100 for some new jewellery, to DVDs and books or some free music – we’ve got you covered. With Wi-fi and 3g available on most trains now it’s easy too.
Bang for your buck
Book your City Night Line carriage in advance through Rail Europe and you can get a bed for as little at 90€!
