Cologne Christmas Market

By Hollie Wicks

It’s that time of the year again with Christmas festivities hiding just around the corner. So with that in mind we are sending you on Traincation to Cologne for this year’s biggest Christmas market…

Cologne Christmas MarketThe Christmas market at Cologne, Germany
Cologne offers you not just one but six markets in the romantic city centre. These festive stalls will be open to the public from the November 26 to the December 23. Each comes with its own unique ambience to bring excitement to your shopping time. Saint Nicholas’s, angels and elves invite you to browse around the festively decorated city!

In the centre of it all lays a rustic stall called the “Home of the Gnomes”. A famous Cologne legend once said it was where the elves lived and crafted their goodies. So there’s no surprise that the market will be filled with stalls selling hand-crafted trinkets.

This year Cologne brings you a new maritime Christmas market which is situated along the Rhine, with over 70 stalls in white pagoda tents with pretty roof peaks looking like ship sails. Each stall will be selling a range of high quality products and art crafts, foods and drinks from all over the world. There’s even an ice rink if you have time for  a spin.

If you are thinking of visiting, follow this link to book a hotel near the market.

Getting there
Travelling to Germany via train is very easy. First of all jump on a high-speed Eurostar train to Brussels . Then from Brussels to Cologne by either the high-speed Thalys train or the German high-speed ICE train. It really is that simple. Make sure you travel light so you have plenty of space in your case for all the pressies you pick up in Cologne.

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…

/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
