Because getting away from it all doesn’t have to cost the Earth…
By Jack Sullivan
Behind the stereotypical reputation of fake tan, Vajazzles and stupid catch-phrases, Essex is actually quite a nice place for a visit. As far as history and architecture go, there’s plenty to see – sights such as Tilbury Fort, Hadleigh Castle and Audley End Mansion are perfect for buffing up your brain cells.
There’s also an impressive coastline of over 300 miles, hosting everything from small fishing villages and lively harbours to quiet beaches and stretches of gloriously undisturbed nature. For the less historically inclined, there’s still plenty of things to do to fill your time – anything from a coastal walk and a round of golf, to watersports and a night out at the infamous Sugar Hut. Essex has a lot to offer, and makes an ideal break away.
So, if you’re going to come and see what the Essex-fuss is about, why not do it in style? Hotspur is a 6-bedroom houseboat in the bustling borough of Colchester. I know it was only two weeks ago that we mentioned a floating hotel, but we just couldn’t resist adding another to the mix – they’re that cool!
From the outside, it may just look any old boat, but on the inside, it’s pretty dreamy. Furnished to the highest contemporary standard and spread out over two floors, this gaff is like a floating version of the Ritz! It’s ideal for seaside holidays, allowing you to absorb the seaside atmosphere from the comfort of your very own private deck.
Hotspur was first launched in 1874 and has been at its current location for a whopping 101 years! It boasts a fantastic combination of the historic and the modern, and is situated in an idyllic location with sensational sunsets and stunning sea-views.
From as little as £67.86 per night, it’d be a crime not to. We hope our little insight rocked your boat – pardon the pun!
N.B. This is my last article for Global Cool (sad face) – I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my stuff as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it! I still write occasionally on my own personal site so feel free to check out my blog to keep up to date with what I’m up to. Stay cool x
