News / Eco movie gives Depp the dumps
It's not every day that you hear of a middle-aged teacher from London dumping Johnny Depp. That's showbusiness, as they say.
Saci Lloyd, whose book
The Carbon Diaries 2015 is the subject of bidding between rival film companies, has decided against allowing Johnny Depp's production firm take on the adaptation.
The book is set in the near future, and shows a lone female heroine fighting back in a world crippled by climate change. Eco-minded Depp would have been a favourite contender for the rights, if it hadn't been for his decision to try and place the movie in the USA.
"Much as I love Johnny Depp and it was a wrench, it was a 'maybe later, Johnny'," said Saci.
"These books are really about London. It's a heightened reality, but the idea is it's close to things that could really happen."

The Carbon Diaries 2015 has a cult status among its mostly teenage readership, so it's no surprise that the adaptation will be made by Company Pictures. Already building on a reputation for smart and shocking programming thanks to its production of the Channel 4 shows Skins and Shameless, they've promised to stay faithful to the book.
