Because enjoying yourself shouldn’t cost the Earth…
We have our fingers and toes crossed that this weekend is going to be a sunny one! We’re dreaming of pulling out the garden furniture again, slathering ourselves in suntan lotion and sipping a homemade cocktail in the sunshine.
In fact even if it isn’t sunny we may just drink summer cocktails indoors and drown our sorrows. If you fancy joining us, here are some simple (and green) summer cocktail recipes you can try at home…
White peach bubbly Bellini
Classic and classy, the Bellini is a drink staple in the cocktail world. We think it tastes miles better when you make it yourself and all you’ll need is a couple of organic white peaches (peeled and with the stones removed) and a bottle of Barefoot Pink Moscato Bubbly.
Toss the peaches into a blender for 30 seconds and then pour the purée into a Champagne flute about half of the way. Top with chilled Pink Moscato Bubbly, which is made by Barefoot Wine – a company devoted to cleaning up the beaches and oceans in the UK to make all our Staycations a little bit more lovely.
Sangria is a popular drink of choice in the Global Cool office (especially in the summer when we have a bit too much and think we are professional Salsa dancers). Pick up a couple of organic oranges and apples, de pip and chop into a bowl (leave the skins on).
Soak the fruit in a delicious dry red wine like any of these from Vintage Roots overnight. Toss in a cup of orange juice and half a cup of rum to really bring out the flavours too. Enjoy!
The Ritz Cocktail
We just loved the name of this cocktail, which made us think of lazy afternoons on sunny terraces in London sipping cocktails. It’s delicious, easy to make and is sure to impress your mates. You’ll need a good cognac like Guy Pinard Cognac (which is yummy and organic, natch), orange juice, a few lemons, a bit of sugar and some sparkling wine.
Mix the cognac and orange juice in equal parts in a cocktail shaker with the juice of three lemons and a tablespoon of caster sugar. Shake well and pour into a Champagne flute. Top with sparkling win and serve.
We love Margaritas (especially midnight margaritas when it’s warm outside), and they are so simple to make. The classic Margarita has only three key ingredients: tequila, lime juice and a splash of triple sec.
Mix two parts Artá Tequila with one part lime juice. Add a splash of triple sec and pour into a salt encrusted glass. Voilà!
A Kir Royale is the perfect drink for a swanky summer party. All you need is some organic champagne, and some rasperry liqueur.
Why not try the Brut, Carte d’Orx champagne: a classic champagne with a rich golden colour – full of zesty fruit with a hint of apples: dry, toasty and full-flavoured. Toss in a couple of organic raspberries for a really authentic drink.
Channel your inner James Bond with a delicious Martini. Square One makes a terrific, pure organic vodka you’ll love. Just mix your vodka with a plash of dry vermouth and toss in an organic olive and you’re good to go. All you have to decide is whether you want it shaken or stirred!
Whilst there’s no scientific evidence to prove it, apparently organic wines and spirits cause less of a morning hangover due to the lack of chemicals and sulfites.
Remember, whatever you’re drinking, do it responsibly. And if you’re not a big drinker, just replace the champagne/wine with sparkling grape juice/grape juice – simples!
Here comes the science bit…
