Go on, make our day…
Did you know that keeping your freezer fully stocked is actually better for the planet? According to NRDC It can save time, money and cooking stress too! That’s because it takes a lot more energy to cool an empty space, according to the NRDC.
According to Energy Star, 90% of the energy consumed by a washing machine goes to heating the water! And it’s really unnecessary – better detergents plus the washing machine’s agitating action, are actually enough to remove stains minus the heat. So try a cool wash once in a while! You won’t even notice the difference.
Be less bright
The high brightness setting used on TVs in shop mode is unnecessary for homes and actually reduces the picture quality of HD TVs. But by pushing a few buttons to turn down the glow you could reduce your bills and improve the picture quality too. In fact, NRDC says you could save 10-20% more energy (and cash) by turning down your TV brightness! Well… what are you waiting for?
Meat Free Mondays
The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation report that the meat industry generates nearly 20% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions (eek!). If you’re not ready to ditch meat completely from your diet then a good first step is incorporating Meat Free Mondays into your life! It really is a fantastic way to slim down that waistline too (healthy vegetarian meals tend to have a lower calorific content than meat alternatives). You can also save some money too as meat meals are on average more expensive than the veggie version. Check out loads more meat-free recipes now…
