Because great fashion doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

Last year professional surfer Kelly Slater bid farewell to his longtime sponsor Quiksilver, after over two decades together. And now he’s set to clean up the planet by launching his own sustainable fashion line with the help of designer and fellow surfer John Moore. The new label will be called Outerknown, and has already forged a partnership with luxury-goods company Kering (who have previously been behind brands like Alexander McQueenGucci, and Stella McCartney).

Outerknown will launch in Autumn this year with a menswear section of wardrobe essentials, including t-shirts, shirts, jumpers, jackets and trousers. There will also be a womenswear line but we’ll have to wait a little while before we know more about it.

Slater and Moore have made sure the sustainibility is key in their production, using organic cotton, hemp, regenerated Italian wool, and recycled fishing nets.

In a recent interview Kelly said “As global citizens, we have an obligation to build better products and understand the way our consumption impacts others. I am constantly traveling and observing the multicultural world we live in, and Outerknown is a brand that references my travels, and stands for the values I believe in.” We couldn’t agree more!
