Because looking your best shouldn’t cost the Earth…

Kate Middleton Alexa Chung and Michelle Williams

Summer is just around the corner and we’ve been so focussed on what to wear that we haven’t given a second thought to what our barnets are looking like. If you’re sick of always wearing the same hairstyle then we hope these summer ideas (including some lovely eco-friendly hair products) will inspire you…

For long hair…

The Beach Plait
This  style is easy to do and perfect for sorting out messy hair quickly. We’re big fans of the fishtail plait which looks great either straight of weaved to the side. If you’re hair’s a bit flyaway, try spraying it with some Lanza Design Cream to keep it together.

The fishtail can be a tad confusing so here’s a how-to to help…

The Kate Middleton Wave
It’s time to crack out the big roller brushes and get locks like Kate Middleton. This look is great for bringing a bit of class to summer parties so make sure you have a decent hair-dryer like the BaByliss Eco Hair Dryer and who knows maybe you could be marrying a Prince soon…

The Topsytail
We haven’t really embraced the topsytail since we were at primary school, but it’s making a big come back this summer. Keep it simple with one flip, or create as many as you like by dividing your hair into several sections. Try some Aveda Damage Remedy Restructuring Shampoo to give this style some extra shine…

For mid-length hair…

Braid and twist
This is a fab style for any length hair, but looks particularly good on a mid-length style. Before drying, apply a coin sized blob of Lanza Contour Styling Cream to make styling easier. Then braid your hair from the front and follow the plait round to the crown of your head. Tuck the excess plait under the braid and voila – a perfect summer style for keeping your neck cool and embracing your inner hippy…

The Alexa Chung messy bob
Alexa Chung has got the messy bob look down to a T and it’s a great style for lazy days on the beach or vamping up an evening outfit. If you don’t have a natural curl to your hair grab a pair of TS2 Eco Lite Hair Straighteners and follow the steps in the video below…

For short hair…

The Quiff
Rihanna‘s tried it, Robyn made her name with it and even Dannii Minogue had a go when she was an X Factor judge – the quiff is an edgy short hair style perfect for making a statement. It’s easy to do and will keep your locks off your face when you’re out and about. See the video below for instructions and check out all the products from the video on the Aveda site now

The Michelle Williams Pixie Crop
Michelle Williams is the go-to celeb for the most up-to-date crop style. This year she’s kept the boyish-yet-feminine pixie cut but with a sweeping side fringe and wispy hair in front of the ear. This style will require a trim every six weeks if you want to keep it looking its best. For added sleekness and shine, try out the Lanza Shine F/X spray.

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

Living green doesn’t have to mean growing dreadlocks and becoming an eco-warrior. At Global Cool we reckon a greener life is still a fun one. We’ve found four simple ways you can be greener without sacrificing the things you love. This article highlights a few ways (the ones in bold below) to start being greener. Click on the links to find out more…

1. Be a winner, not a binner (aka recycling and reusing stuff)
2. Turn up the style, not the heat (aka using less energy at home)
3. Love the trend, not the spend (aka buying stuff that doesn’t harm the planet)
4. Do it in public (aka ditching the car and plane when you can)
