MUSIC RADAR: Taking the train with Layla and SKATERS

on in Uncategorized

Because staying on top of the music world doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

LAYLA and SKATERS

Need a pick-me-up on the bus to the office? Or looking for that perfect Friday-feeling tune for the train journey home? Look no further! Each fortnight we’ll bring you our Music Radar top track, complete with a Spotify playlist, so you can plug in and get your toes tapping on public transport

We actually discovered Layla under the pseudonym of Jose Vanders (check out The Magician by Jose Vanders… seriously, it’s all sorts of beautiful), and we are completely hooked on her. Her lyrics remind us a bit of Adele (i.e. do not listen to too many songs if you have just gone through a break up) but her voice is like some sort of wonderful lovechild of Ellie Goulding and Imogen Heap.

Here’s Layla playing one of her latest singles Oh My Love with the Pindrop Band. Performed in Long Ashton, Bristol as part of the ‘One Mic Stand’ series… just one mic, a lovely small audience and lots of mince pies. Enjoy…

Now onto something completely different. Next up on Radar this fortnight are some very cool cats called SKATERS – a rock band formed in NYC a few years ago. The group’s birth can be traced to a hectic 24 hours in Los Angeles in the summer of 2011, when singer and songwriter Michael Ian Cummings met English guitarist Josh Hubbard. The rest is history.

Check out the video for Miss Teen Massachusetts. We won’t judge you for having a little dance…

And don’t forget to check out Global Cool’s Music Radar Spotify playlist to keep up to date with the hottest new music when you’re on the bus/train/tube to work….

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…
/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
