Game changers. Last week we had the opportunity to witness pure musical talent in the form of Brandi Carlile. This week we found ourselves at the gig of all gigs, celebrating music talent that borders on unreal. Before we begin our ode to Brittany Howard, we must first introduce one of our other great loves…

Jessie Baylin is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter originally from New Jersey. She began her career at a very early age, working the mic at her parent’s restaurant, which inspired the name of her second studio album, Firesight, released in 2008. Her sound is a mix of folk and jazz and pure honey gold sliding into your ears! We can’t help but fall in love every time we listen.

Inspired by the greats, including Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Barbra Striesand and Judy Garland amongst others, Baylin records and tours with several brilliant musicians who round out her sound and create something wonderful. We have a taster of what’s to come with single Creepers (Young Love) released this year…others to take a listen too are Little Spark, Love Is Wasted On Lovers, The Winds and The Greatest Thing That Never Happened. Take a listen to our pick below…

Next up is the one and the only Alabama Shakes, a.k.a. Brittany Howard and her incredible band made up of Heath Fogg, Zac Cockrell, Stever Johnson and Ben Tanner. This American blues-rock band, formed in Athens Alabama in 2009, are sensational. It is a huge statement to make to say that this was the best live performance I have seen to date…but it must be said. Unrivaled, unprecedented, unreal musical talent. Howard sings with her whole body, you can almost see the ripples of sound coming from her toes out of her mouth, and by God what a sound.

Playing all the fan favourties from the band’s smashing debut album Boys & Girls, Howard teased us with a few new tracks, keeping it real while we all stood in absolute awe. Our favourites include, but are not limited to, You Ain’t Alone, I Found You, Always Alright, Heartbreaker, Boys & Girls, and of course the absolutely stellar first release from the band’s upcoming album Sound & Colour (2015). Take a look and listen below…

And don’t forget to check out Global Cool’s Music Radar Spotify playlist to keep up to date with the hottest new music when you’re on the bus/train/tube to work….

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…
/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
