It is something rather excellent to be spoilt for choice when it comes to discovering brilliant new music, especially those musicians who are quietly dominating the UK music scene. Despite the roaring spring sunshine, we found ourselves caught up this week in the music of two gorgeously gloomy and shadowy acts…

First up is downright talented songstress Chloe Black, who recently opened for another Global Cool favourite, Rhodes, at the Village Underground. Although Chloe Black is half-French and half-Australian she has lived in both Paris and LA and is now happily based in London. Thank the heavens because we love having her here!

With her brand new single, 27 Club, Chloe Black has been turning more than heads and has been seducing every listener with her hauntingly stunning music. She is the ultimate femme fatale – romantic, emotive, eerie, dark as all hell and equally as clever by not shying away from grand pop choruses to keep us all hooked – Chloe Black’s music is matchless. We are huge fans of her Kanye cover of Runaway, but this week’s pick is her single 27 Club. Take a glance and a listen to the video below…

Next up are slightly less dark but equally as handsome, Of Empires. This four-member band originally formed in Guernsey (of all places) in 2001, before moving to Brighton and soaking up all they could of the music scene. Members, George Le Page, Matthew Berry, Jack Fletcher and Liam Bewey are doing pretty well for themselves, having recently won the MTV Brand New Unsigned accolade this year. The band’s genre is rock…there is no denying. More so Brit-Rock with a Stones and Arctic Monkeys influence somewhere in the beautiful mix up of bluesy ballsy rhythms.

Their debut EP, Stranger Sensations, is now available to download, and we suggest you get to it so as not to miss these guys. They are certainly “Ones-to-Watch” this year. If you like what you hear (and you will) then head down to the Hawley Arms on the March 26 to hear them play live. We love all the band’s recent singles, including Stranger and I Want You To Get Mad, but of course we have a favourite…take a listen to Give Me What I Need below…

And don’t forget to check out Global Cool’s Music Radar Spotify playlist to keep up to date with the hottest new music when you’re on the bus/train/tube to work….

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…
/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
