It’s mid-December and the exodus has begun. Slowly but surely London dwellers are migrating back to their family homes, or carefully planned vacation spots, to enjoy the Christmas break. Some of us aren’t going anywhere, but nevertheless there is still some sort of journey involved between this week and the New Year. A little soul searching. A last burst of energy before reaching the end of another year. Our picks for this week pair very nicely with travelling…whether you are on a train or simply chilling in your living room.

First up is the absolute wonder Dev Hynes, a.k.a. Blood Orange. Born in Texas, raised in London and currently based in New York, this singer-songwriter, producer, composer is as cool and as interesting as you’d imagine someone who has travelled and experienced would be. His sound is transcendent – folky/funk/indie/electronic or in other words entirely unique. We love it.

Dev released his debut album, Coastal Grooves (2011), under the name Blood Orange in 2011. Starting a slow burn of musical genius that is unlikely to cool down. Cupid Deluxe was released in 2013 and continues to be one of our favourites. Take a listen to You’re Not Good Enough and Bad Girls, and don’t miss the video to our top pick, Champagne Coast, below…

Next up is a band who personify the word journey in our opinion. Their music takes you places…it’s melancholic but magical. Delta Spirit are a five-member indie rock band made up of Jonathan Jameson, Matthew Vasquez, Kelly Winrich, Brandon Young and William McLaren. Formed in 2005, these musicians have developed musically in such a way that their music will continue to feel reminiscent and reflective for years to come. It makes you remember to live, but live alongside others and not by yourself.

The band recently released their fourth studio album, Into The Wide (2014), which includes stellar tracks Wreck and From Now On. It was difficult to choose our top pick, especially off the band’s third studio album, Delta Spirit (2013)…but although Yamaha was a close second, it’s California that takes the prize. Take a look at the dreamy video below…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…
/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
