January: there’s no sugar coating the dreary first month of the year. Unless you live in a country where it’s hot and sunny right now…in which case you can politely shove off (just kidding).

Our playlist for the month of perpetual blues, requires musical magic. We need music that’s aptly melancholy but not entirely depressing (after all, Easter isn’t really that far off). So join us in our January blues and let the music do the talking with this week’s top music picks…

First up is Benjamin Clementine. One: What a name. Two: What a talent. This singer-songwriter is truly a poet and an extremely talented musician. Born and raised in North London, Benjamin then moved to France – a life decision that has clearly influenced his sound and downright suaveness! His vocals and lyrics are true marks of his mature, deep, sensitive, warm, dark and dramatic nature. So much feeling; so much humanness.

After performing on Later With Jools Holland, fellow performer Paul McCartney (yes!) urged Benjamin to continue with his music career. Um…we agree Paul, we agree. Take a listen to his track Condolence off of Benjamin’s latest EP, Glorious (2014). Our favourite is, of course, his incredible track Cornerstone (2013), off his debut EP of the same name. “I dream, I smile, I walk, I cry” – lyrics that pretty much sum up this month, take a look at the video below…

Next up are two brothers, Ryan and Taylor Lawhon. These two utter talents make up Pacific Air (formally KO KO). Based in LA, California, Pacific Air are set for big things, having already opened for some other Global Cool favourites including Passion Pit, Atlas Genius and Two Door Cinema Club. Their music is a true reflection of their lives, having lived a nomadic childhood moving from place to place. Two brothers and their music, bringing us joy and bringing us soundtracks to our own stories.

They released their debut album, Stop Talking, in 2013, which includes brilliant tracks Float and Move. Our pick is none other than Play Nice, an absolute winner! Take a listen below…

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…
/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
