School of Cool #119: How to ride in style like Jay-Z

on in Uncategorized

Because acting like a celeb doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

Jay Z on Tube

So, who is he?
We know you’re not serious with that question, but we’ll humour you anyway…

Jay-Z is American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur and one of the most financially successful hip-hop artists in America. He’s also married to Beyonce – lucky sod!

Impressive. What else do I need to know?
Apparently Jay-Z taught himself how to ride a bike at the age of four which technically means he’s been trying to save the planet since kindergarten.

So, he’s a cool guy, but why is he a Global Cool guy?
Jay-Z is the founder of the UN’s Water for Life, an organisation that works hard to get clean drinking water to people worldwide. He also works with Buffalo Boss in Brooklyn, which sells 100% organic chicken. Along with wifey Beyonce he also own a New York gastro pub called The Spotted Pig which composts weekly, recycles and grows all the food locally.

More recently Jay-Z has found himself in our eco bad books for making some questionable choices. But a few weeks ago he redeemed himself by hopping on the tube to get to his own gig at the O2. Bearing in mind he could afford to airlift himself onto the stage we’re pretty darn impressed to see him riding the London Underground. What’s more he took along pals Chris Martin and Timbaland for the ride.

So next time you think about driving rather than hopping on public transport just remember you never know who you could end up rubbing shoulders with!

Here’s some more photos of Jay-Z, Chris Martin and Timbaland on the London Tube…

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…

/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/ Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
