on in Uncategorized

Because being cool shouldn’t cost the Earth…

Lauren Laverne So, who is she?
Lauren Laverne is a British rdio DJ/television presenter who currently presents BBC Radio 6 music. She’s worked with Channel 4, The Culture Show and can often be found covering music festivals all over the UK.

Impressive. What else do I need to know?
Laverne actually began her carrer as a musician, playing guitar and singing vocals in the band Kenickie. She also sang on Don’t Falter by Mint Royale too.

She’s a cool girl, but why is she a Global Cool girl?
The blonde mum-of-one wrote a very interesting article for The Guardian recently address issues around ethical fashion. The piece begins with the question “Which comes first, the ethics or the fashion? Both options seem an unhappy compromise” and continues to explore ethical fashion in our modern world.

Laverne continues to say:

“I maintain that engaging your brain when you open your wallet is the first step to take to help the high street, the world (and your wardrobe) become a better place.”

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!

And here she is singing Don’t Falter because we think she’s pretty cool…

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

Living green doesn’t have to mean growing dreadlocks and becoming an eco-warrior. At Global Cool we reckon a greener life is still a fun one. We’ve found four simple ways you can be greener without sacrificing the things you love. All our articles highlight one way (the one in bold below) to start being greener. Click on the links to find out more…

1. Be a winner, not a binner (aka recycling and reusing stuff)
2. Turn up the style, not the heat (aka remembering to turn off your lights when you leave the room)
3. Love the trend, not the spend (aka buying stuff that doesn’t harm the planet)
4. Do it in public (aka ditching the car and plane when you can)
