School Of Cool #115: How to be a real hero like Hayden Panettiere

on in Uncategorized

Because being cool doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

Hayden PanettiereSo, who is she?
You might recognise her as the cheerleader from Heroes, or for her stint on screen in Scream 4 recently. Maybe you’ve been following her musical journey on Nashville alongside the pretty Connie Britton. However you know her, it’s time to pay some homage to this pint-sized eco-hero.

Impressive. What else do I need to know?
You may have seen Hayden Panettiere’s tattoo before but did you know it’s actually misspelled? The tatt of the Italian words ‘Vivere senza rimipianti [sic]’ runs down her left side and is supposed to mean ‘Living Without Regrets’. Unfortunately the typo renders it meaningless and she’s currently having it removed. Don’t worry Hayden, we still love you even with a somewhat ironic inking!

So, she’s a cool girl, but why is she a Global Cool girl?
Hayden Panettiere is an avid animal lover, defending whales, dolphins – and ultimately, the whole planet, of course. More recently she has partnered with Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green denim recycling program, a unique initiative that turns old jeans into UltraTouch Denim Insulation.

The cool insulation is made up of 85 percent recycled cotton fibres and provides around 250,000 square feet of insulation to communities in need each year. It’s friendly to the environment, resists mould and mildew, and doesn’t contain any nasty chemicals.

And they’re doing well: since 2006, an amazing 985,342 pieces of denim have been collected, and the program now aims to achieve 1 million denim donations soon. To reach their goal, they have created a celebrity autographed jeans auction which Panettiere is involved in. Rather than money though, people bid with “denim currency,” meaning a bid is equal to the number of denim items you pledge to collect for recycling.

And here’s the trailer from Nashville, where Hayden is looking very good indeed…

frankensteinHere comes the science bit…

GC articles show you one of four ways (the one in bold) to live greener…

/ Be a winner (not a binner) /
/ Turn up the style (not the heat) /
/ Love the trend (not the spend) /
/
Do it in public (not the car/plane) /
