Because living like a celeb doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

Emily Decshanel and Beyonce

Global Cool would like to give a warm welcome to our newest writer Rebecca Sellitti – one of the wittiest and prettiest gals we know. She’ll be bringing you the hottest gossip from the land of celeb each week – enjoy…

Please let me kiss you Ms. Emily Deschanel for continuing in your role as the poster-child for a cruelty-free vegan lifestyle.

Emily has been an observant vegan for years, and has dedicated a great deal of time to convincing folks that “dairy-free is the way to be.” Zooey Deschanel‘s animal-loving sister is continuing to champion her cause by supporting the cruelty-free footwear line Beyond Skin Vegan Shoes. The girl with kaleidoscope eyes is encouraging people to donate to a Kickstarter campaign that the footwear company has set-up in order to fund their new line of budget-friendly kicks.

Beyond Skin has, until now, only produced pricey pumps for high-end boutiques, but the small U.K-based company is trying to create a line of footwear that will not put the same strain on their customer’s bank accounts as their shoes put on celebrity toes and calf muscles. Recognizing that there’s a large segment of the population who cannot afford to spend £161.00 on a pair of boots, Beyond Skin is working to produce animal-friendly shoes that, while still luxurious and chic, can be purchased by any individual committed to the vegan cause.

Thank you Dr. Brennan (for those of you who have been living in a cave, that’s her character on Bones) for pointing me toward this amazing vegan shoe-line!

Bella ThorneMarry
This week’s most ‘marriage-worthy’ eco-celeb is the Disney princess Bella Thorne.

nb. ‘marriage-worthy’ is simply a way of saying a celebrity has done something extraordinary for the environment, and deserves a bit of recognition. In no way am I advocating that you marry a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL

Anyway, the Shake it Up actress and tween superstar earns her big girl eco-stripes for throwing her support behind The Thirst Project, which is an organisation dedicated to creating awareness about the global water crisis. While most fifteen year olds are focused on getting their learners permits, and cruising the town’s Main Street, this philanthropic young lass is focused on digging wells that will allow impoverished individuals access to sanitary drinking water.

She’s even pledged to travel all the way to Uganda to get down and dirty with some well-digging. How many teenage superstars would use their spare time to do manual labor in Africa, rather than sip piña coladas on the shores of St. Tropez? (Okay, time’s up: NONE!)

If, at fifteen, Ms. Thorne shows THIS level of dedication to bettering our planet, I can only imagine the kind of impact on the earth she’ll have when she’s my age (sixteen-plus, if you really wanna know!)

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has found herself in our bad books, but she caught our eye recently again for commiting another green crime. Sasha Fierce recently posted a pic on Instagram proudly displaying a lineup of her family’s nearly identical nubuck boots. For those of you not in the leather industry, nubuck is basically just a costlier version of suede.

In the photograph Beyoncé posted, we see Young Hova’s leather boot, right beside Blue Ivy Carter’s baby Timberland bootie (what infant doesn’t need a durable pair of hiking shoes for those long hours it spends being carried about in a pram?) And Beyoncé’s ZIGIgirl boot (a shoe I can only assume was designed for strippers who have a hankerin’ for the outdoors). It’s quite possible that a whole moo cow had to give up its life in order to supply the leather to shod the Carter family’s feet.

I’m hoping that Queen Bey will consider checking out the awesome cruelty-free footwear brands out there like… oh… I don’t know… Beyond Skin Vegan Shoes!

Fingers crossed the talented pop star crosses paths with Emily Deschanel at her next red carpet event, and finally decides to put a ring on an eco-friendly lifestyle!!
