Because living like a celebrity doesn’t have to cost the Earth…
Welcome to our new feature to replace Snog Marry Avoid. Now, instead of a simple snog, the green A-lister will become a venerated Eco Saint. And in lieu of avoiding an environmentally-discourteous super star, he or she will be branded with the title of Eco Sinner. This week it’s judgement day for Dave Franco and Louis Tomlinson…

Eco Saint: Dave Franco
It can’t have been easy for actor Dave Franco to escape the shadow of his A-list older brother, James Franco. But, despite the odds, Davey has managed to carve out his own niche on the Hollywood scene, starring in such big budget productions as Now You See Me, 21 Jump Street, and its highly-anticipated sequel, 22 Jump Street. The dimple-faced heartthrob is also showing that he’s got mad love for Ms. Mother Earth, by using his growing popularity to promote the eco-conscious, motorized longboard company, Boosted Boards. So natch, I’ve decided to venerate the dashing David Franco as the celebrity Eco Saint of the week!
Proud big-brother James Franco shared a video with his Twitter followers that featured Dave and his buds beta-testing the eco-friendly Boosted Boards in the mountainous terrains of Big Sur, California.
Touted as a “last mile vehicle”, Boosted Boards were specifically designed with short-distance travel in mind. For example, rather than waste fuel by driving your pollutant-producing automobile to the neighborhood 7-11, you can ride your battery-powered Boosted Board to snag those indispensible Slurpees and Slim Jims. The portability of these electric boards also makes them ideal for folks who use public transportation. Riding a bus is not always the most efficient way to get from A to B, often because trekking to the bus stop is so very time-consuming. But, with the very manageable dimensions of the Boosted Board, you can zoom to the bus terminal, carry (not ollie!) your wheels onto the bus, then be on your way!
And with famous faces like Franco getting behind the electric longboardss, it’s only a matter of time before Boosted Boards become the ‘must-have’ product for hip, sustainably-minded millennials the world over!
Eco Sinner: Louis Tomlinson
I have nothing against the boys of One Direction. To be honest, I rather like that rag-tag group of moppets. And of the 1D chaps, baby-faced Louis Tomlinson is probably one of my favorites. He keeps his nose clean, stays clear of major drama, and has been in a committed relationship with the same lovely lass for several years. A bizzarro-Bieber, you might say. However, I just can’t in good conscience let this Directioner’s good conduct blind me completely to his recent eco-indiscretions, like the fact that Tomlinson used his personal private plane to fly his childhood friends across the channel just to do a little bit of skiing in the French Alps.
So although it pains me to do so, I must declare Mr. Louis Tomlinson to be this week’s greatest Eco Sinner!
It really doesn’t get any more Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous than jetting off to Southeastern France for a few days of fun on the slopes. We get it Lou. You’re a baller! But, this kind of extravagance is both wasteful and unnecessary. In this instance, it wasn’t just a matter of choosing the fuel-inefficient private plane over a commercial aircraft; it was Boo Bear’s (that IS Louis’ nickname, though I haven’t a clue as to why) decision to use air travel at all, when train travel is a viable option. Because Val d’Isère is a popular winter destination for Brits, there are several trains that offer direct routes from London to Val d’Isère. Sure, it’s a nine-hour voyage, but if you’ve got good friends and top-shelf hooch taking the trip with you, those nine hours will just zoom by! BONUS: You’ll also be doing your part to minimize your carbon footprint!
I still don’t understand why folks are so quick to pooh-pooh the idea of riding the rails. It’s the only form of transportation where you are allowed to move about as freely as you want to. You can walk around if you want to. Hell, you can even DANCE if you want to!
The point is, instead of remaining seated on a boring flight, Louis could’ve reserved a private car on Eurostar and spent the entire commute partying hard with his posse! I hope Mr. Tomlinson keeps this in mind the next time he books a Gallic getaway with his mates! Oh, and the boy-bander would be wise to check out Global Cool’s tips for taking a dream Traincation. Here comes the science bit…
