Because living like a celebrity doesn’t have to cost the Earth…

It’s no secret that here at Global Cool we are massive fans of Bradley Wiggins, and the Sports Personality of the Year awards on Sunday reminded us all over again why we fell for the speedy cyclist during London 2012. Wiggo snatched up first place in a landslide victory of 50,000 votes, racked up in just 35 minutes! He admitted that receiving the award was the perfect end to the year, and joked ‘There’s only the knighthood to come, isn’t there, really’.
After huge online campaigns and even support from David Cameron, it is suspected that Bradley could soon become ‘Sir Bradley’, however the modest cyclist insists that he is uncomfortable with ‘hierarchy and status’, leaving the public unsure as to whether he will accept a knighthood. Whatever happens, we think Bradley is fully deserving of the title; approximately 200,000 people have taken up cycling this year, no doubt partly caused by the Wiggins Effect. Anyone encouraging greener travelling is a winner in our eyes!
Stella McCartney has always been one of our favourite fashion designers, so we were chuffed to see her receive her award for Designer of the Year! Also sweeping up the award for Designer Brand, it’s great to see an eco-friendly designer getting recognition for their work.
Stella, a Green Cut designer, has long been a supporter of the Green Carpet Challenge, a project which encourages celebs to wear outfits which are environmentally friendly on the red carpet. Global Cool want to give Stella a huge hi-five for all of her stellar work!
Here’s Stella being presented with her award…
With Christmas fast approaching, everyone is rushing around trying to get their last few bits of shopping done before the big day. However, there always seems to be one person that goes overboard, and Katie Holmes seems to have lost touch with reality completely. Reports that Katie has bought daughter Suri a £15,000 Victorian playhouse almost made us choke on our mince pies!
The playhouse comes ‘complete with running water and electricity’, with extra features including ‘sun rooms, media rooms and extensive landscaping’. Most adults can only dream of owning such a property, but Suri is only six! We think Katie needs to seriously reconsider her extravagant spending, and perhaps look at a more planet-friendly present for her little princess!
Here comes the science bit…
