Because rubbish TV shouldn’t cost the Earth…

By Maisie Beckenham

It’s cold, it’s wet, we’re all broke, and yet weekend TV really has never been so bad… Our embarrassing weekend highlight show Splash! Has now been replaced by the weekly wait for World Without End and you really can’t help but be depressed when watching that. So, we propose you get up off your bum and get planning one of these activities to do instead this weekend! Not only are they good value, but they’re a hell of a lot of fun as well. And by turning the telly box off for once, you’ll be doing your bit for the planet too…

Disco Loco

Disco Loco
A day-time clubbing experience for the whole family! From ravers to crawlers and upwards, this family-based disco features a busking room, occasional main stage acts and regular guest DJs spinning funky tunes. Music, booze, nosh, dancing and shenanigans. What’s more, Disco Loco is only £3, and FREE for pre-walkers

Benthal Green Working Men’s Club, 42-46 Pollard Row, E2 6NB (Until Sunday March 3rd)

Cooking Class

Cooking Classes
Check out Groupon, kgbdeals and lastminute.com for fantastically cheap deals on cooking classes… From cupcakes to sushi, there really is a cooking class for every type of cuisine.

Whether you want an day-time or evening class there is plenty of option and what’s great is they are all in your selected local area!

Charlotte Street Film Club

Alternative Cinema
There are plenty of alternative cinema listings across the UK such as pop-up cinema’s and outdoor projections, it’s just about keeping an eye out! If you’re looking for a regular alternative, we recommend the Charlotte Street Film Club. The Sunday listings cost about £35pp and includes a three-course meal or a champagne afternoon tea at Oscar, the hotel’s restaurant – this really would impress on a first date!

Tea Party

Host a tea party!
With teabags as cheap as chips, why not crack out the old teapot and host a street tea party! If everyone comes along with a cake or a biscuit variety, everyone will be spoilt for choice!

It’s a great way to bring your neighbours together and it gives the kids a chance to make some local friends!

Why not give them a try, and let us know how you get on? Have fun!
